Finally, a family sized swag!

With a mattress width of 1.6m wide, our new Igloo Air Pole Swag has plenty of room so that mum and dad can have one or two smaller children in the swag with them.

This air pole swag will be a game changer for some families as it will reduce the number of swags they need to transport to their favourite camping spot (space is usually a huge issue).

What’s more the air pole system and Hybrid Air/Foam mattress system makes this swag smaller and lighter than you might expect, while making it up to 5x more comfortable than competing swags in this class (compared to a 50mm swag mattress).

Igloo Swag air pole structure

Unlike other swags in this category, we use a single pump point air pole system for this canvas swag. This makes the Igloo Swag lighter and quicker to set up.

The Igloo Swag also comes with the fly system which uses alloy poles and a lighter fly material to cover the canvas of the swag keeping it dry and warmer in winter, and cooler in summer if you want to use the swag as a play area for the kids too!

In fair weather you also have the option of not using the fly system to save some set up time, the choice is yours.

Hybrid Air/Foam Mattress

Competitors who have done a swag of similar size have opted to drop the mattress thickness down to 50mm to keep the swag to a reasonable size. The problem with this is that 50mm of foam is not enough to ensure a good nights sleep.

We have overcome this design compromise by developing our Hybrid Mattress system which uses a strategically shaped air pole mattress where we can with layers of foam where needed to give you the best nights sleep you’ll get in the bush, while keeping the mattress ultra-compact.

All of this allows us to have a huge double swag which packs up into a single swag carry bag!

Swag Carry Bag options

We have designed two carry bag options for the Igloo swag (sold separately).

For those who do not wish to carry a long swag the Igloo Swag can be folded in half before rolling up and will fit into the Igloo single swag carry bag. The downside to this is that you will not be able to leave your bedding inside the swag. Still this option will suit many.

If you wish to leave your bedding inside the Igloo Swag and are able to carry a long bag (1.7m) the Igloo double swag carry bag will be suitable for you as you can roll up the Igloo swag with your bedding and still fit it in this roomy carry bag!

Can the Igloo Swag fit on a Stretcher?

No. The Igloo Swag is designed to go on the ground and due to the comfort of our Hybrid Mattress you do not need to add a stretcher to add comfort to this swag.

If you really want a swag on a stretcher for other reasons we’d suggest you look at our 1500 MEGA Swag which is designed to integrate with our 1500 wide double stretcher.

Other Things to Consider

You’ll need a good pump to both inflate the air poles of the Igloo Swag and to inflate the Hybrid Mattress. While any cheap air bed pump is suitable to inflate the mattress, the air pole system of the swag requires a quality pump capable of inflating up to 7 psi. As many pumps sold in camping shops are unable to do this we recommend you purchase you air pump from us.

More about the Hybrid Mattress

The varying diameter lateral pole air mattress (design registered) has been designed around the curves of the body to give correct and comfortable positioning without thick layers of foam to achieve the same result.

The Hybrid Mattress is also great in that you can vary the air pressure to suit your individual sleeping preference, having anywhere from a soft to firm feel!

We use a 20mm layer of high-quality foam which is positioned from the shoulders down to the butt and this combination of air and foam gives a really comfortable feel that you just don’t get with self-inflating or full air mattresses.

There’s also an additional 20mm thick foam pad located under the air mattress in the position where your butt goes, giving a total of 40mm foam for the heaviest part of the body; and more importantly, the thicker foam and thinner air in this region gives this mattress a stability that other air mattresses cannot achieve. This means when you roll over in the middle of the night you have a stable base to move on.

Our Hybrid Mattress also features a quality quilted cover with a layer of quilting foam built in, giving a luxurious feel to the mattress and an extra layer of comfort.

How much more comfortable is it?

This is a subjective measure, but we’d say twice as comfortable as our 100mm deluxe full foam swag mattresses which are renowned for their comfort! We’d also say that it is five times more comfortable than our competitors who only use a 50mm thick foam.

Won’t the Hybrid Air Mattress feel cold?

In summer this mattress is perfect as it keeps you much cooler than a foam mattress. In cool temperatures it’s fine as the foam layers included in the mattress and your sleeping bag will be more than able to keep you warm. In cold weather however our Hybrid Mattress will be colder to sleep on than a thick foam mattress. This is why we have made our Hybrid Mattress serviceable with a zip in the cover, this allows you to slide a small $7 survival blanket (not supplied) in between the foam and air component of the Hybrid mattress to make better use of your body heat and the keep you warm. This is an easy fix for anyone wanting to do cold weather camping.

What if I damage the Hybrid Air/Foam mattress?

As the hybrid mattress only needs minimal air pressure (next to none), as long as you prepare the ground before putting your swag down, there is very little chance of you damaging the air component of the mattress.

If you do however, they are easy to repair with a puncture repair kit and we do keep replacement air mattresses in stock so you can service and repair you Hybrid swag mattress.
