King Single Swag - Compact

Half the Size, Twice the Comfort!

Loading the Ute with my swags for a weekend away with the wife and kids, I started thinking that there must be a way to make swags smaller and easier to cart around!

This led me to develop our new compact swag range with our new Hybrid Mattress that allows us to cut the size of these swags in half while also increasing the comfort of the mattress beyond that of any other swag.

One of the gallery pictures shows our new compact king single swag in its compression carry bag next to a normal swag to give you an idea of the difference in volume. The two swags in picture both have our plush 4-Season sleeping bag inside.

How we cut the size of this swag in half

There are two techniques we have developed to dramatically reduce the size of this swag:

1. Our new Hybrid Mattress design only uses foam in critical areas where it’s really needed by the body while sleeping. With years of testing, we’ve developed an air mattress with varying diameter lateral poles that gives support and comfort to the body while sleeping, with the aid of only minimal foam.

2. Our new canvas compression bag supplied with this swag helps to take the remaining bulk out of the swag by using five traps to compress the swag and sleeping bag (supplied separately).

Why is the Compact Swag more comfortable?

The varying diameter lateral pole air mattress (design registered) has been designed around the curves of the body to give correct and comfortable positioning without thick layers of foam to achieve the same result.

The Hybrid Mattress is also great in that you can vary the air pressure to suit your individual sleeping preference, having anywhere from a soft to firm feel!

We use a 20mm layer of high-quality foam which is positioned from the shoulders down to the butt and this combination of air and foam gives a really comfortable feel that you just don’t get with self-inflating or full air mattresses.

There’s also an additional 20mm thick foam pad located under the air mattress in the position where your butt goes, giving a total of 40mm foam for the heaviest part of the body; and more importantly, the thicker foam and thinner air in this region gives this mattress a stability that other air mattresses cannot achieve. This means when you roll over in the middle of the night you have a stable base to move on.

Our Hybrid Mattress also features a quality quilted cover with a layer of quilting foam built in, giving a luxurious feel to the mattress and an extra layer of comfort.

How much more comfortable is it?

This is a subjective measure, but we’d say twice as comfortable as our 100mm deluxe full foam swag mattresses which are renowned for their comfort!

Won’t the Hybrid Air Mattress feel cold?

In summer this mattress is perfect as it keeps you much cooler than a foam mattress. In cool temperatures it’s fine as the foam layers included in the mattress and your sleeping bag will be more than able to keep you warm. In cold weather however our Hybrid Mattress will be colder to sleep on than a thick foam mattress. This is why we have made our Hybrid Mattress serviceable with a zip in the cover, this allows you to slide a small $7 survival blanket (not supplied) in between the foam and air component of the Hybrid mattress to make better use of your body heat and the keep you warm. This is an easy fix for anyone wanting to do cold weather camping.

What if I damage the Hybrid Air/Foam mattress?

As the hybrid mattress only needs minimal air pressure (next to none), as long as you prepare the ground before putting your swag down, there is very little chance of you damaging the air component of the mattress.

If you do however, they are easy to repair with a puncture repair kit and we do keep replacement air mattresses in stock so you can service and repair you Hybrid swag mattress.

Is the Compact Swag as good a quality as your other swags?

Yes, we use the same high-quality materials in the compact king single swag as our other premium swags. All that makes this swag more compact is the Hybrid Mattress design and the compression bag supplied with the swag.

How hard is the Compression Bag to use?

Not hard at all, it just takes a little longer do up the five compression straps and to pull them up tight. We think this small amount of extra work is worth it with the space you save!

Can I leave my pillow in the Swag?

No, the compression carry bag is only big enough to take the swag itself and one of our plush 4-Season sleeping bags.
